W5R (RCWA) WILL ROGERS DAY SPECIAL EVENT

Will Rogers Day Special Event Station (WRDSES) will run from 0000 CST 1 November 2009 to 2400 CST 14 November 2009.  Operators will operate from their home stations.  This year WRDSES will operate all modes, all bands.  Operators are responsible for finding a clear frequency to operate in.

Operators must abide by the following rules.

  1. While operating from home the operator of this special event has only those privileges granted to them by the F.C.C. In accordance with his/her license classification.
  2. Coordination of frequency, mode, date and time must be made with Dirk, K7QVD prior to operation of this special event.
  3. All contacts must be logged in such a way as to allow Dirk, K7QVD the ability to transcribe the data manually or import it electronically into an Excel spreadsheet.
  4. Have fun!

K7QVD will coordinate with KC5CSC to get operating schedules published on the club website.  Operators should check this schedule to ensure that a date/time and frequency/mode of operation is available prior to making a coordination request.

Operators must identify with the following:

CQ CQ CQ de W5R a special event station commemorating Will Rogers Birthday CQ CQ CQ

When transmitting in conjunction with an event of special significance, an amateur station ("special event station") may transmit the identification announcement using a special event call sign in accord with the procedures detailed below. Substituting a special event call sign for its assigned call sign may help a special event station call attention "on-air" to its participation in the special event and to the unique opportunity for the amateur service community to exchange greetings with the station. Use of these provisions, however, must not detract from the station making the source of its transmissions known to those receiving them. The special event station must also transmit its assigned call sign at least once per hour during such operation.

Indicators. In addition to the special event call sign system, any amateur station, including a special event station, may include with its assigned call sign one or more indicators (example "W1AW/national convention"). Each indicator must be separated from the assigned call sign by a slant ("/") or any suitable word that denotes the slant mark ("portable," "stroke," etc.). If the indicator is self-assigned, it must be included before, after, or both before and after, the assigned call sign (example "KP2/W1AW/contest"). No self-assigned indicator may conflict with any other indicator specified by the FCC Rules (such as "AA", "AG", "AE" or "KT") or with any prefix assigned to another country (such as "DL", "F", "G" or "VE").

Operators must further identify using their station call at least once an hour.  An operator may be asked for their (personal) callsign for the callers (personal) logs, in this case the RCWA Operator is allowed to provide their (personal) callsign to the caller.  This also helps the club give credit to the RCWA Operator making the contact when QSL cards confirming the contact arrive.

To obtain their certificate, individuals must send a SAS 8X10 inch mailing folder for a non-folded certificate, or a SASE for a folded certificate.  Send SASE to
